Report Number: 05-0000192
Report Date: 05/27/2005
Event Description
While responding to an apparent working fire event, the engine I was driving was involved in a minor mishap. I was accelerating the engine through an uneven intersection when the differences in road height caused the engine to drop, bounce off the intersection, and hit the roadway with a great deal of force. Every piece of equipment in the cab of the engine was dislodged. When we arrived on scene we discovered that the front intake had been dislodged up about 3", the stop to the radiator had broken off, and one of the air-brake solenoids had been destroyed.
Lesson Learned
Slow down at intersections, know the area better, don't let the 'working fire' dispatch get your emotions taking control of your actions.
