Event Description
Upon arrival at a one-story, wood frame, single family dwelling, firefighters were notified of possible entrapment. Two firefighters positioned themselves on the front porch to make forcible entry. Front door was forced with a resulting increase of smoke and fire intensity. At this point, rollover occurred across porch ceiling. There had been a delay in charging handlines which necessitated the firefighters to abandon their position on the front porch due to the intense heat.
Lesson Learned
1. Maintain awareness of surrounding conditions that could possibly put firefighters in jeopardy.
2. Communications between companies is essential. The delay in the water supply was not commuicated to the forcible entry team.
3. Ensure that a charged handline is present prior to making forcible entry.
