Event Description

While fire operations were underway, attack team was on the 2nd floor of a two story apartment with a 1 3/4" attack line. The relief driver operator of the engine company supplying the attack line went to switch from tank water to hydrant supply. Once the supply line was charged, the relief driver operator shut off the tank to pump valve and never opened the intake valve for the hydrant supply. The attack team lost water for about 30 seconds. The attack team had to call on the radio to get the attack line pressurized again.

Lesson Learned

Personnel must be proficent with all skills to do the job correctly. Relief driver operators must maintain their skills through training.
