Event Description
Engine company reponded to assist medic unit on a fatal accident involving a bike vs. car. Engineer parked engine in breakdown lane, facing downhill. Wheels turned toward curb. Engineer failed to use wheel chocks and neglected to set parking brake. Engine rolled downhill approx. 200 ft before coming to rest in ditch. Minor damage to property and engine.
Lesson Learned
Need to pay attention to procedures in place. SOP's require use of wheel chocks and parking brake. Engineer became distracted in his haste to assist with call and failed to properly secure engine before providing assistance.
