Event Description
Firefighters were overhauling in basement and first floor of a one-story, wood frame, single family dwelling. Fire had heavily damaged first floor support of dwelling. During overhaul, a refrigerator fell through weakened floor from first floor to basement. One firefighter injured, receiving significant trauma.
Lesson Learned
Prior to overhaul, inspect integety of areas of sturcture damaged by fire. Anticipate loading on areas above the fire floor. Fire crews should employ floor sounding techniques to insure stability.
